Our Courses

Pre RAAF Preparation

Start Date:

Using the experience gained by over 23 years as a military Flying Instructor, Gary and Draig Aviation can prepare you for life as a trainee pilot in the ADF.

Draig doesn’t claim to be able to guarantee a pass at the Basic Pilots Course, but the ex-military instructors who fly for Draig Aviation can equip you with the real skills appreciated by Military QFI who will train you.

With Draig Aviation Services, you will attend a 4-day course. You will have an introduction with ex-serving military pilots, and operational veterans holding the defence force qualifications and possessing the operational experience you hope to one day achieve yourself.

You learn a bit about life as an ADF pilot, you’ll learn a bit about yourself as our staff guides you through several set-piece practical and theory exercises all designed to place you within the mindset of successful ADF Pilot candidates.

You will fly with qualified Draig Aviation ex-military instructors, who will offer you the experience of a standard ADF Basic Pilots mission profile, using the same training methods standardized by the ADF for the past 60 years, methods employed by Military QFI’s at ADF 1FTS East Sale to this date.

With tutorials, preparation training, and formal mass briefs, you will see the importance of recognizing each training cue as you form the mindset needed for success.

At the end of the 4-day experience, you’ll receive no formal recognition, no achievement awards or pilot qualification but you will have seen first-hand the elements needed for success at ADF Basic Pilot training.

CASA pilot Air Activity Endorsement Training

Start Date:

Draig Aviation, working under the Warnervale Air Services AOC, can provide you with the standard CASA endorsement training needed to be awarded Aerobatic Flight, Formation, Tail Wheel design feature and Low Flying.

In addition, the experience of Upset Flight Pilot Training is taught using as its basis the same Unusual Attitude recovery training common to military training syllabi and now championed by CASA to ensure you can recognize and recover from those typical upset flight conditions.

It takes the principles shown in stall recovery training, aerobatics, and UAs and can deliver an experience that hones your pilot skills, develops confidence and gives you the tools that may one day save your life.

You’ll be given mass briefs and tutorials that highlight the dangers of (use TEM expression for threats and errors) you will be given real-world examples of how Threat & Error Management and Crew Recourse Management both mentally prepare you for, and give you the skills set to, recognize and recover from upset flight situations.

You will be given four 1-hour flight exercises, five if you lack Manual Propellor Pitch Control experience in our ex-military CT4B trainer and will be awarded a certificate of participation upon course completion.

Feel like releasing some adrenaline?

Start Date:

With Warnervale Air, Adrenaline Adventure Flights are available to be booked and given as gifts to either yourself or perhaps someone you know who always wanted a “TOP GUN” experience.

These special events are 30 minutes in duration, and come in one of two styles; either a straight adventure flight in which you see the sights of the amazing central coast, along with experiencing both G forces and Top Gun aerobatic manoeuvres or you can sign on for a full simulated military mission event, participate in the planning and pre-mission brief, dressed in flying suit. You then assist your pilot as a “mission Specialist”, calling checklists and following Navigation Strip maps as you assist your pilot to identify and roll into attack on targets, then “evade the Hostiles” to return to base in time for a commemoration photo and experience certificate.

Whatever way you find your adrenaline; you’ll be assured that safety is our number one priority. You will be flying with fully qualified pilots in CASA-registered and licensed aircraft.

A new horizon; Drone theory and commercial activities

Start Date:

Never one to rely solely on his reputation, Gary has taken Draig Aviation to new adventures and opportunities over the past few years.

Be it using his skills gained achieving his MSc&Tech (Aviation) through the University of New South Wales to provide you with training solutions and general technical consultancy, developing training syllabi for example standardizing Instructor Formation training, Grade 3 Instructor training, or Instrument training, Draig Aviation has the background experience and training to deliver your organization’s training requirements.

Drone Training

The CASA RePL (Drone pilot license) is a relatively new arrival on the pilot training landscape. Whether you need a CASA drone-licensed pilot for work or a job that seems to be beyond the qualifications of most Drone pilots, Draig Aviation offers several specialized services you may be interested in.

Having a full CASA-issued Remote Operators Certificate (ReOC) allowing Draig Aviation to legally pilot drones up to and including 25 KG gross weight, Draig can perform to exacting standards several Unmanned Aircraft activities.

Theory Training

Start Date:

The CASA pilot license (RePL) permits holders to fly for hire and reward those activities specified in the CASR Manual of Standards and under the CASR Part 101 Standard operating conditions. There are several ways in which CASA limit the activities you legally may engage in as a Drone Pilot.

Draig Aviation Services can provide the additional training needed to have Drone Activities not permitted under the CASRs included on your RePL. These can include Night Operations, Extended Visual Line of sight operations and the AROC.

Draig can provide you with the theoretical ground school lessons needed to attempt the Beyond Visual Line of Sight (OCTA) qualification.
